Option 1)  LANDMARKS: On a Power Point Presentation, refer to tourist maps, Internet web sites and other sources to create a schematic drawing of Greenwich Village and the Upper Manhattan area where Holden lives.  Label the streets, elementary school, museums, park, carousel, train station, ice rink, theater, hotel, and any other pertinent landmarks.

 

Provide 1 or more significant quote from the novel at each landmark.  Cite the speaker  (don’t use quotes exclusively from Holden) and page number from Catcher.  Follow MLA format & include works cited slide or link.

 

Option 2)  TIMELINE: On a Power Point Presentation, draw a timeline of events expanding from the football game at Pencey to Phoebe’s ride on the carousel in the park. Insert exact times and places where possible.  Incorporate pictures onto your Power Point Presentation project.

Option 3)  27TH CHAPTER: Add a chapter to the end of the book written from the point of view of Dr. Thurmer, D. B., Phoebe, Holden’s parents, Mr. Antolini, Mr. Spencer, Mark Stradlater, Robert Ackley, Carl Luce, or Jane Gallagher.  Comment on the reason for Holden’s breakdown and the prospects for his recovery. Keep your remarks in character with the voice that is speaking.  Copy and enlarge your chapter to 20 point or larger and paste onto a Power Point Presentation board, entitled Chapter 27.

 

750 word minimum, and 1,000 word MAXIMUM

 

Option 4)  WEBSITE:  Follow options 1 or 2, but replace PPT with a website, with at least 8 hyperlinks, 1 being to a works cited web page.  Incorporate at least 5 pictures or graphics.   Follow all other guidelines as stated in options 1 and 2.

 

NOTE TO ALL: For options 1, 2, or 4, make sure that the quotes are truly “significant” and they highlight a theme, tone, or attitude of the speaker – or perhaps a trademark in Salinger’s writing style.

 

TIME: 8 minute time limit, 9 min. cutoff  and you’re allowed 10 minutes if you do the timeline
