Ireland Trip 2003:
Photos from the Emerald Isle

Trinity College, founded in the 16th century, is located in the heart of downtown Dublin.

Here's a look at the Trinity College courtyard.
Trinity's alumni includes Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett.

This belltower is the center of the courtyard at Trinity and
marks the spot where the former monastery stood centuries before.

Dublin Castle, like Trinity College, is located just a few blocks from the Liffey River.

Dublin Castle was built in the 13th century and stood as a symbol of British rule for 700 years.

Dublin Castle (rear view) was handed over to Michael Collins and the free Irish State in 1922.
The National Museum of Ireland includes an adjacent geneology research library.

James Joyce Cultural Center is located north of the Liffey
and includes furniture, paintings and other interesting articles belonging to Ireland's most famous author.
James Joyce was the author of Ulysses, The Dubliners and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

This small pond was referenced in Ulysses and
one can take a great walking tour of Ulysses sights from the James Joyce Cultural Center.

This is the park behind the cathedral where the first baptism by St. Patrick took place in AD 450.

The original St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin was built in wood and rebuilt in stone in 1192.
Swift is buried in the cathedral.
